hi, bear!

I saw my first bear up close this afternoon. I managed to take a few pictures of it before I scared it off by saying "hi bear". This was completely involuntary. It just came out. Afterwards Rod said to me "so did you think the bear would come up to you after saying hi? or did you WANT to scare it away". HM! I totally don't know why I did it. hahhahah but it's awesome that I did!!

our stumbled links #2

OK it's been a while since I did the first one, so here's #2. I haven't been the stumble master since arriving in Fernie, but I have still managed to find a few sites worth mentioning.

here is a list of 3 artistic sites/pages and my personal reasons for enjoying them.

1. marcel duchamp - nude descending a stairecase, no. 2, 1912
This painting was one of my favorite pieces in college, and probably still is. Years later I was visiting my parents in Philadelphia and we took a trip to the Museum of Art, the Rocky museum (yes I ran up the stairs and cheered), and this painting was there! I was so happy to see the original. And then the other day I stumbled on a link to the painting! weird!

2. photography series - la vida de vagabundos americanos (42 fotos)
Not sure who took these photos but I think they're very interesting. I had to do a triple take on one of the photos because it looks insanely like my friend Louvens. I'll have to ask him about that.

3. Gustav Klimt
Obviously a fantastic painter, but I was initially attracted to this website because of the song playing in the background. I used to play this when I was a weeeee child pianist.

summer adventures 07

I have managed to get a few things done outside of the work world this summer 07 and it's not over yet! It's been a really really crazy year for blue skies & daisies, so it's really nice when we get the chance to do something fun in our spare time. Even if it's just hanging out at the PNE or grabbing lunch with a friend. There's always time for extra bits of fun.

Spending a bit of time in Fernie with my man has opened up other opportunities for me (brina). I have included a few pictures to show you what I've been up to.

We hope you've been enjoying your time!

There's more to come! Teenie, Ben, Almonds, Matt and myself go to Uclulet for a long weekend/wedding and then Teenie and Ben fly to Las Vegas for another wedding!! HOLY FUN! And who knows what else. That's what makes life so exciting!

dinner with the vasseurs

My parents are in town, visiting from North Carolina, and my siblings and I take these visits as opportunities to get together to laugh and make fun of each other as we revert back to little kids. This year, the annual trip brought us together for a Keg Dinner with The Vasseurs.

Our little clan seems to be slowly growing with the only kid representative being Lexybear, Court & Karen's 2 1/2 year old daughter, and if you include Benjamin, we're about 8 strong. Mind you, if we include everyone we would be able to make up a small rural town or even a nice representation for a United Colours of Benetton ad.

Our evening was filled with indulgence including steaks, lobsters, starters, mains, sangrias, beers and laughs. Somewhere between the getting up to ring-around-the-rosy with Lexy, the bathroom breaks, the mad dashes to take pictures of Tony Robbin's bike, and the excessive eating of that devilishly good sourdough bread, we forgot to have dessert! I think Karen and my mom are the only ones that really were heartbroken over it...especially since the rest of us did manual CPR on each other with all the arteries we clogged up over the course of dinner.

Although Court, Simon and I all live within a 40 minute drive of each other, it seems as though our busy lives make it difficult for us to see each other more than once every few months. Monday night's dinner out makes me remember how good it is to be around family and because of it, at least one of these siblings is going to make sure we all see each other again before 2007's out....hey, maybe even twice!

with love to my family,

spring and summer

It seems like the only way to really experience summer is to leave Vancouver.

I spent 4 wonderful weeks in the city and left for Fernie on the 1st and I notice the second I land in the south eastern region of British Columbia summer is really here. This fact isn't so apparent in Vancouver as two weeks of rain and temperatures between 18 and 24 make it seem more like Spring... atleast to this Ontarioian. Rod and I's first task was to go boating on Lake Koocanusa. In the 4 hours we were on the water, my tan was right back to where I left it 4 weeks ago. It's so good to be back.

Since I've been here, I've finished a book lent to me by Tanya Bryant (excellent book, my friend) and started a new one; I've been on two boats, gone camping, enjoyed bbq salmon and drank a few cold ones. Summer is definitely here.

It's the civic long weekend (or BC day, thanks to Teenie), which I constantly forget about, and I have decided to take the time off. I believe Albertine has as well. I'm proud of her for that. Albertine works really hard for our clients and taking time off is something she deserves more than anyone I know.

Maybe next time I go to Fernie I should take her with me. What do you say teeqee??? :D
