Dwight "Slippers" Schenk

My big brother recently recorded a solo album and I can't tell you how proud I am of him. His music is so inspiring to me, not just because he's my brother, but because he writes songs that are 100% Dwight. He didn't hold back or wimp out on any of the songs on this album. I know it took him a long long time to finish this, maybe close to 2 years, and you can tell that he put a lot of care into it.

Myspace - Dwight Schenk, Natural Disasters

This is a solo album but he didn't shy away from working with others. There are a lot of contributing musicians and singers on the album. Have a listen.

putting it out there: vonegut and the slaughterhouse orchestra

Dwight Schenk, my big time brother, has collaborated with Scott Good, the soon to be composer for the Vancouver Symphony, for their own pure enjoyment and admiration, to write a musical tribute to the literary works of Kurt Vonnegut.

I know personally the time, energy and amazing talent that is going into this night, April 19th at The Media Gallery, and if anyone in the Toronto area is looking for something different and cool, should check this out.

This will be one of those nights where you don't know what to expect and when the night is over, you leave completely inspired and feeling a little special because you were one of a small group who got to experience this one time event. You lucky lucky people.

Family Comes First

Happy Easter weekend!! I hope you all enjoyed the couple hours of sunshine we had this morning. Well I thought it would be nice to blog about my time at home. I rushed home to spend time with my brother, Dwight, and in the end realized that maybe it was me that needed to go home more than my family needed me to come home...or not. I can't speak for them. Being so far away from my family, it's really important for me to be able to go home and be part of the family in a way that only being present can accomplish. Obviously, I'm still part of the family in Vancouver, but to help out and talk face to face and laugh and play games with these crazy people that you love more than anything, it's worth more than gold.

Here's a couple pics of my family. They'll all great and funny and so important to me...including all those that aren't shown.

Back in Vancouver I was pleasantly surprised to see the cherry blossom trees blossoming. This last picture is from my walk into work. Gorgeous!!

bring your sister to work day

My lovely brother dragged me to work with him today so I can get some work done while I'm in Ontario. Although I am on "vacation" I still have work to do. SIGH. Don't worry, I'll take some time off next week! and there will be laughter and games and fun and movies and stories and sleeping in!!!

Dwight's a too talented for his own good video editor and I get to sit in his editing suite and design wedding invitations. They go together like chap stick and dry lips. So far the day has been fun with coffee, a little show & tell and funny painted walls.

I sadly forgot my camera at dwight's place this morning, so I had to suck it up and take pictures by pointing my laptop cam at whatever it was I wanted to take pics of. Here's where I am today! Oh and that's my bro/bff.
