It's a miracle!

This morning I woke up to this fun surprise on my windowsill! My purple morning glory bloomed into a beautiful purple morning glory. It's so pretty and I don't even like the colour purple. But somehow flowers look amazing no matter what colour they are.

My mom gave me these seeds about 5 years ago and they've been sitting on my shelf until some day in March I finally planted them. It worked! It's a fact: I can grow stuff.

Because I left for Fernie only days after starting this botanical project, I feel as though my plant didn't get the chance it deserved, as it didn't receive water for over 3 weeks. But isn't it amazing that it's still alive today? It's a miracle.

bon iver at the media club

I feel so sorry for anyone who didn't catch the show on Tuesday night at the Media Club. Bon Iver melted my heart into a pile of glowing warm goo. It was one of the best shows I'd seen and heard in a long time. Not too often do I feel overwhelmed by such beauty...which is kind of sad because there is beauty to be found everywhere. I wish to feel this overwhelming sense of happiness more in my life.

So back to the show. Bon Iver was amazing but so was Phosphorescent. They were two solid bands that have beautiful songs and a great deal of talent. Thanks Derrick for coming out with me and thanks to John for standing with me in the corner for the last hour. Oh I should really thank the bands for sharing...Thanks!

Introducing to you: The Little Things

One quiet Sunday in December, my good friend Derrick Belcham, who recently moved back to Vancouver, invited me out for lunch at Liberty Bakery on Main. But of course I would love to!! We ate yummy soup and talked about all the things going on in our lives that we're excited about. Derrick is one of those guys who is amazing at anything he picks up and not only becomes a master of the trade in a day but also has the energy and passion to make things happen. Knowing this, I decided to pick his brain about an idea that I came up with for our Ready2Wear catalogue. And that's where it all began! Drinking coffee on Main...probably not the first time a great idea was born on Main.

Immediately Derrick and I toured the area for antique shops and second hand spots to help inspire us. The best thing we ended up doing was stepping into Urban Source, a recycled and reusable art material shop. The items in there are so random and cool and, for us, perfect.

After buying a bunch of material, I realized there needs to be a reason for this. Our Bunny Love wedding invitations were a hit for 2007, mainly because it's different and you have options for your photographs, so the idea was to create a new "pick your photo" wedding invitation design...with a good story behind it. Inspired by life itself, I thought of creating a bunch of scenes that showed a couple enjoying all the little things they share together...because really, that's what life is all about. During a quick brainstorm session at Wild Rice on West Pender, we giddily ran upstairs and made it happen. It was a night we'll never forget. We amazed ourselves and I was in awe of Derrick's ability to capture the little felt scenes with his fancy camera. I appreciate you, Derrick!!

So here are some shots I took of our arts and crafts evenings...

And here is the end result!

Today I'm pretty excited to talk a little about a new Ready2Wear invitation design we recently introduced. It's called The Little Things.

bring your sister to work day

My lovely brother dragged me to work with him today so I can get some work done while I'm in Ontario. Although I am on "vacation" I still have work to do. SIGH. Don't worry, I'll take some time off next week! and there will be laughter and games and fun and movies and stories and sleeping in!!!

Dwight's a too talented for his own good video editor and I get to sit in his editing suite and design wedding invitations. They go together like chap stick and dry lips. So far the day has been fun with coffee, a little show & tell and funny painted walls.

I sadly forgot my camera at dwight's place this morning, so I had to suck it up and take pictures by pointing my laptop cam at whatever it was I wanted to take pics of. Here's where I am today! Oh and that's my bro/bff.

spring and summer

It seems like the only way to really experience summer is to leave Vancouver.

I spent 4 wonderful weeks in the city and left for Fernie on the 1st and I notice the second I land in the south eastern region of British Columbia summer is really here. This fact isn't so apparent in Vancouver as two weeks of rain and temperatures between 18 and 24 make it seem more like Spring... atleast to this Ontarioian. Rod and I's first task was to go boating on Lake Koocanusa. In the 4 hours we were on the water, my tan was right back to where I left it 4 weeks ago. It's so good to be back.

Since I've been here, I've finished a book lent to me by Tanya Bryant (excellent book, my friend) and started a new one; I've been on two boats, gone camping, enjoyed bbq salmon and drank a few cold ones. Summer is definitely here.

It's the civic long weekend (or BC day, thanks to Teenie), which I constantly forget about, and I have decided to take the time off. I believe Albertine has as well. I'm proud of her for that. Albertine works really hard for our clients and taking time off is something she deserves more than anyone I know.

Maybe next time I go to Fernie I should take her with me. What do you say teeqee??? :D
